Sweet comfort is the name of the game in baking for 2020, and the statistics are there to prove that consumers are craving sweet baked goods in rising numbers. To take it a step further, desserts infused with alcohol are trending even more this year, and the LloydPans innovation team predicts that the holiday season will prove to be even bigger in this category.
At the beginning of the year, Dawn Foods predicted that customization and personalization would take the cake — and other baked goods — during the year in its “Eight Food Trends to Guide Your Bakery in 2020” consumer behavior survey. Little did we know how true that forecast would be in a time where people need comfort, convenience and single serving offerings.
A splash of color in the baking community was a hit in 2020, especially in the second half of the year. Sprinkles and rainbow colored pastries and cookies provided a special surprise when consumers took a bite, along with a well-needed dose of happiness via brightly hued baked goods.
Our baking trend list of 2020 continues, and the LloydPans innovation team would be remiss if we didn’t discuss the comforting, soft-baked-smell-wafting-through-the-kitchen delight that we call bread. Artisan bread was making a huge comeback before COVID, but when the pandemic hit, bread’s numbers were on the rise even more.
It’s the ramp up to the holidays and the wind down to the end of 2020, and the LloydPans innovation team is feeling nostalgic. Some fun, unique innovative baking trends emerged this year, and for the next 10 weeks we’re going to take a look back on the top bakery items that warmed their way into our hearts and stomachs. First up, cupcakes.
