Sure, Thanksgiving leftovers are great and all, but what about dessert? Nov. 26 is National Cake Day, and we’re taking a closer look at this season’s cake trends worthy of a slice.

No White Elephant Here
First we turn to arguably the biggest cake baking expert in the world: Martha Stewart. She says that “holiday magic is back,” and her seasonal cake trend predictions center around bigger guest lists and more robust social calendars. Not only is cake something to eat in 2021, but it’s also something your customers are going to choose as a gift. Rebecca Gardner, founder of Houses & Parties, told Martha Stewart that she loves Caroline’s caramel cakes in this category. “Caroline’s caramel cakes make a decadent dessert and memorable hostess gift.”

From Darkness to Rainbows
This year’s holiday season is keeping it classy with black buttercream, a trend that Wilton.com says “strikes the eye … makes a great canvas for metallic cake paint or colorful candy decorations.” After the storm, however, comes the rainbow, and cakes decorated with rainbow colors are a great end-of-year pick me up into 2022.

Magical Adornments
What would the holiday season be without a little magic? Martha said so, and cake decoration trends are showcasing characters like bears, swans, Santa and Rudolph. Plus, toppers like snowflakes; snowy cottages; black forest items like chocolate leaves and mushrooms; and candy presents and snowmen are eye-catching additions that bring any holiday cake to life. The only drawback is that your customers have to cut into these whimsical designs!
